DELTA IE is the French customs (DGDDI) system for import and export declarations under the Union Customs Code. Each declaration contains many coded data elements: a single wrong value can lead to a rejection, a hold or an inspection. Check yours before filing it.
Who files a DELTA IE declaration?
Declarations are filed by the company itself or, more often, by a registered customs representative (customs broker, freight forwarder) acting under direct or indirect representation. In every case, the declarant needs a valid EORI number and must state the competent customs office.
The data elements that most often cause problems
- The procedure code (for example 4000 for release for free circulation, 1000 for permanent export), which must match the direction of the flow
- The 10-digit TARIC code on import, required to calculate duties and measures
- The EORI numbers of the declarant, importer or exporter
- The customs office of clearance, which must be a French office
- Consistency between invoiced value, currency, Incoterm and freight costs
- Net weight, gross weight, number of packages and country of origin of each item
How the check works
